Key Lime Pie Mousse Variations

Here are some fun variations you can try to switch up your key lime mousse pie recipe:

  1. Coconut Lime Mousse

Swap out the vanilla almond milk for coconut milk to give your mousse a tropical twist. Top with toasted coconut flakes for an added crunch.

  1. Vegan Key Lime Mousse

For a vegan version of this lime mousse dessert, use a plant-based protein powder, dairy-free yogurt, and a vegan sweetener like maple syrup or agave. Add extra almond milk to reach the desired creamy consistency.

  1. Lime Mousse Cake

Layer the key lime mousse between slices of sponge cake to create a lime mousse cake. The mousse makes an excellent filling for cakes, adding a refreshing citrus flavor to your dessert.

  1. Key Lime Mousse Parfait

Layer the mousse with granola, crushed graham crackers, or even fresh fruit to make delicious key lime pie mousse cups. This parfait-style treat is perfect for breakfast or as a snack.

  1. High-Protein Lime Mousse

If you’re looking for a protein-packed dessert, increase the number of protein scoops to four. This creates a thicker and even more filling mousse that’s ideal for those following a high-protein diet.

  1. Key Lime Mousse with Mixed Berries

Top your key lime mousse recipe with a handful of mixed berries like raspberries, blueberries, and strawberries for a colorful and antioxidant-rich garnish.

These key lime mousse cups are a perfect way to enjoy a classic dessert with a protein boost. From a post-workout treat to a refreshing dessert, the possibilities with this recipe are endless!

How to Make the Best Key Lime Pie Mousse Recipe

Step 1

Blend the Ingredients
Start by adding all the “Blender” ingredients to a high-speed blender: 1 cup of key lime or lime juice, 2 tablespoons of lime zest, 1/2 cup chia seeds, 3 scoops of vanilla lean whey protein, 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract, 5 oz of 2% Greek yogurt, 3/4 cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk, and 1 tablespoon of agave or 1 teaspoon of Stevia (depending on your preferred sweetness). Blend until smooth. Make sure to only zest the colored part of the lime peel, as the white part can add bitterness.

Step 2

Check Consistency
After blending, ensure the mousse is the right consistency. The mixture will thicken as it cools, but it should be smooth, not too runny or overly thick. If your mousse is too thick, gradually add tablespoons of almond milk while blending to achieve a smoother consistency. This is especially important if you’re using vegan protein powder, which can result in a thicker mixture.

Step 3

Prepare the Crust
Crush three low-calorie graham crackers to form the base of the mousse cups. Add 1 crushed graham cracker to the bottom of each small jar (a 435ml size jar works well). The graham cracker base provides a delightful crunch that contrasts with the creamy mousse on top.

Step 4

Pour and Garnish
Pour the blended chia mousse into the jar over the graham cracker base. Then, garnish the top with thin slices of lime for a vibrant, decorative touch. The bright lime slices also enhance the zesty flavor of the mousse.

Step 5

Chill the Mousse
Seal the jars and store them in the fridge for at least three hours or overnight for the best texture. The chia seeds will absorb the liquid and thicken the mousse further, resulting in a creamy, pudding-like texture that resembles the filling of a classic key lime mousse pie.
