Baked plantain chips were a real discovery for me!

Confession: one of my trigger foods happens to be kettle chips. Give me a family-sized bag, and I’ll likely eat the whole darn bag without even realizing it. That’s why I really like this healthier #recipe because it incorporates 2 of my favorite foods – chips & plantains, a great complex carb. Perfect for snacking, to accompany meals, or for game night. Boom.

The ingredients you will need for the baked plantain chips recipe are 2 green plantains, coconut oil or avocado oil, and seasonings. Make sure to find green plantains. They cannot be ripe or they would not be firm and easy to peel and slice. Beside that, yellow plantains have a lot more sugar and have a sweet taste, which won’t go well with the seasoning we use in this recipe.

Peel plantains and cut them into thin slices. Mix them in a bowl with coconut oil, sea salt, and cumin. Add some paprika and cayenne if you desire. Place the plantain chips on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and bake for 20 minutes at 350 F.

After 10 minutes of baking, shake the pan or flip the chips and spray with coconut oil. Bake them for an additional 10 minutes, until they turn brown. Before the end of baking, set the oven to broil to help the remaining chips get a golden brown color. But be careful to not burn the chips.

Serve baked plantain chips with your favorite dipping sauce. For me, the best combination is these chips and my homemade guacamole. But I’m sure it will go great with chili sauce, sweet and sour sauce, pico de gallo, or any other sauce to your liking!

Write to me in the comments if you have already tried this plantain chips recipe and with which dipping sauce you combined it. And of course, how your friends liked it!
