Making energy bars is one of my favorite foods to make in the kitchen.  And to think I avoided making them for so long because I thought they were too hard to put together.  That couldn’t be further from the truth!  I’ve made several here on my site and they’re perfect for curbing sweet cravings. But sometimes our cravings are not so simple and are all over the place – we want something sweet, salty, sour yet not offensive to the palate.  That’s a lot of demands but it’s easy to fix.

The answer – caveman energy bars recipe! Great for weight loss and it’s healthy.

Really, we just add one more ingredient to our usual bar recipe – jerky!  The salty dried meat adds texture, flavor and a modest boost of protein!  This is a great option when you want to switch things up and add some more flavor! I got everything from my local grocery store Kroger so it is super easy to source! This is perfect if you want to make a homemade energy bar.

Easy Caveman Energy Bars Recipe


Ingredients for 20 bites


  1. Add the turkey jerky to a food processor and process until it is fine like powder.  Then add the almonds – and protein powder if applicable – and pulse blend until it chopped, NOT fine.  You want the almonds to have some texture.
  2. Add the wet/sticky ingredients to the food processor and blend until it becomes a sticky, thick and dough-like.  If necessary, add a tablespoon of water and/or coconut oil while it blends to help.
    • IMPORTANT note: sometimes, depending on the ingredients and the quality of your blender/processor, you may need to add more/less of an ingredient.  This is normal when making bars in order to arrive at the right consistency.  If that’s the case, you may need to adjust the macronutrients at the end of the recipe.
  3. Evenly divide the dough into silicon ice molds OR spread it out in a small baking dish lined with parchment paper.  If desired, garnish the top with crushed nuts, dried fruits or seeds.
  4. Cover in plastic wrap, then freeze for at least 3 hours.  After that you can store in the fridge or keep them in the freezer.  If you used the ice molds, then enjoy one at your leisure OR slice the pan into equal amounts.  Enjoy!
