By experimenting in the kitchen and openly sharing my meals, I learned that healthy eating is hardly boring and that by making a few adjustments, I could design a diet that could help me achieve my personal fitness goals. After eating pretty heavily over the holidays, I like to drink water throughout the day – WITH my other meals – to help with detoxifying the body.

I have posted about infused waters before. They are a great way to pump your body with vitamins and minerals, while also helping with detox.

Lemon helps with digestion and boosts your immune system while cleansing and alkalizing the body.
Mint helps with upset stomachs, digestion and of course, add freshness without adding sweetener or sugars.
Cucumbers help with rehydration, have anti-inflammatory properties, and help rid the body of ammonia, which is a by-product of the proteins our bodies burn for energy.

Making this detox water at home is very simple. The only steps required are adding water, 2/3 cucumber, one lemon, and three mint sprigs to a 33 oz water bottle.

Be sure to wash well and slice the cucumber and lemon, and rinse the mint. Let the lemon, cucumber, and mint sit in the water for about 20 minutes before you start consuming detox water. When you finish the bottle, you can pour new water into the bottle and drink again after 20 minutes. Do not use the same ingredients after 24 hours as they will start to decompose, remove them and add fresh ones.

Detoxification will help you rid your body of toxins and improve your energy level. Also, if you aim to lose weight, it will help you in that process, and it contains very few calories.

Your body certainly already does a great job of detoxing through your organs, so drinking more water can only help your body’s own detoxification efforts. Staying hydrated should be part of our daily routine.

Share with us in the comments below if you have ever done water detox, and what effects it had on your body, and yours detox water recipes.
