10-minute Protein Brown Rice Crispies Treats
Craving for a sweet treat, especially after a workout? Great news, fit foodies! Here’s something quick and easy, minimal ingredient treat that will surely satisfy your tastebuds — Protein Brown Rice Crispies!
Rice is a versatile grain that serves as the staple food for many people around the world, especially in Asian countries. It comes in several colors, shapes, and sizes, but the most commonly consumed is white rice and brown rice for a healthier option.
What is brown rice? It’s whole-grain rice with outer hull removed. Meaning, it contains all parts of the grain, including the fibrous bran — the carb-rich and nutritious germ which is great for your health.
White rice came from it but had the hull, cereal germ, and bran layer removed, leaving it with very few essential nutrients and minerals.
So, which is healthier? They both affect other health aspects, but in this case, brown rice has an advantage. It is rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber, antioxidants, and amino acids — building blocks of protein that make up 75% of the human body. It even contains Lignans that have shown to reduce the amount of fat in the blood, helping lower blood pressure and decreasing the inflammation of arteries.
Research shows that eating whole grains aids in lowering blood sugar levels and decreases the risk of type 2 diabetes. It may also significantly help in losing weight, body mass index (BMI), and hips’ circumference.

Ingredients for 15 “golf ball”-sized treats:
- 3 cups brown rice crisp cereal
- 1 heaping scoop vanilla isolate protein powder (I used Cellucor cor-Performance whey)
- 2/3 cup almond butter (or peanut butter or choice of natural nut butter)
- 1/2 cup raw honey
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon (optional, recommended)
In a ceramic or glass bowl, mix together honey and almond butter. Ensure that both have melted completely so they can easily mix well together. To help, you can toss this in the microwave for a few seconds.
Add cinnamon and protein powder and mix together using a spatula.
Then add 1 cup of brown rice cereal at a time and fold in the cereal.
Spread mixture in a shallow baking dish (about 8×8) or use silicone ice molds for individual portion control.
Store the treats in the fridge and slice (or pop out of the ice molds) when you’re ready to eat them. It’s best to let these “harden” in the fridge for at least 20 minutes before enjoying.
These are tasty so practice self-control!
