If you’re into health and fitness, chances are you have a designated water bottle or two, that you keep by your side for any work-out. It hydrates you before you hit the trail and quenches your thirst when that hundredth and one squat has you a bit winded but, really, how much water are you really drinking?
We’ve all heard that you should drink at least eight glasses of water a day and while the number can be debated, it can’t be debated that water is a major necessity for good health. The only thing is, no matter how healthy we think we are or how great our regimen is, we’re not always able to get in those eight glasses. So what do we do? Drown our woes and our lack of water guilt at the last minute with a few gallons of water? No, but you can eat your way to your daily drink minimum.
Remember how water is good for you? Well so are fruits and vegetables.When you eat fruits and vegetables, you’re not only appearing healthy, but you’re also hydrating your body and consuming necessary nutrients, such as oleic acid, polyphenols and Vitamin C. This all can be found in water enriched foods, which allows you to “eat your water”.

While it is a good idea to “eat your water”, by no means should you completely cut water from your diet. Fruits and vegetables may have a high percentage of water but, they only make up at most 20% of our daily water intake. Instead, make an effort to incorporate these foods in your daily diet. If you’re not a fan of eating raw fruits and vegetables, try using them in smoothies, vegetables included. Cut strawberries up into your yogurt, add slices to your bowl of oatmeal, snack on celery and peanut butter. The options are endless, but they all will help you stay hydrated.
