Prep: 5 min
Total: 5 min

Monticello Salad Ingredients

For the Salad:
  • 6 cups mixed greens (such as romaine, arugula, and spinach)
  • ½ cup candied pecans or walnuts (for crunch and sweetness)
  • ½ cup dried cranberries or cherries (adds a tart and chewy texture)
  • ½ cup crumbled goat cheese or feta (for a creamy, tangy bite)
  • 1 small apple or pear, thinly sliced (adds natural sweetness)
  • ½ small red onion, thinly sliced (for a mild sharpness)
  • ½ cup cherry tomatoes, halved (adds juiciness)
  • ½ cup sliced cucumbers (for a refreshing crunch)
For the Monticello Dressing:
  • ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil (for a rich and smooth base)
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar (adds acidity and depth)
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard (helps emulsify the dressing)
  • 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup (balances the acidity with sweetness)
  • 1 small garlic clove, minced (for a hint of sharpness)
  • ½ tsp salt (enhances all the flavors)
  • ¼ tsp black pepper (adds a mild heat)

How to Prepare Monticello Dressing

Step 1

Prepare the Dressing Base

In a small bowl or a mason jar, combine the olive oil, apple cider vinegar, Dijon mustard, and honey. Whisk or shake vigorously until well combined.

Step 2

Add the Seasoning

Stir in the minced garlic, salt, and black pepper. These ingredients help enhance the flavors in the dressing.

Step 3

Mix Until Smooth

Continue whisking until the dressing thickens slightly and has a smooth consistency. If using a jar, secure the lid and shake for about 30 seconds.

Step 4

Taste and Adjust

Taste the dressing and adjust as needed. If you prefer a tangier dressing, add a little more vinegar. If you want it sweeter, add a touch more honey.

Step 5

Let It Rest

For the best flavor, let the dressing sit for at least 10 minutes before using. This allows the ingredients to meld together for a more balanced taste.
